What can I do? That's the question we all ask when we care about animals and want to help end their suffering. The good news is that one person can make a difference. From changing your own diet and consumer choices to joining or supporting activist organizations, you can make a real difference in the lives of animals.

Step 1: Go Vegan
If you love animals, want to preserve the environment, or just want to stop supporting corporations that hurt people and poison the planet, the first and best thing you can do is to stop eating meat, eggs, and dairy products. For information and resources to make the switch as painless as possible, go to our section on vegetarianism here.

Step 2: Boycott Products Tested on or Made from Animals
From leather shoes to shampoos containing animal protein, products made from animals come from the same kind of suffering as animal-based food. From cosmetics to household cleansers, products tested on animals are associated with unspeakable tortures. To find out which companies do or don't test on animals and to learn about the hidden animal ingredients in common products, check out the PETA fact sheets here.

Step 3: Support Animal Liberation Efforts
For small animal rescue or advocacy organizations like ours, even a small donation can make a big difference. And, truth be told, every animal liberation organization in existence could always use more funds. While we would of course like you to support us -- which you can do by using the Paypal button at left, by mailing a donation to the address at the bottom of this web page, or responding to the wish list here -- we must say that any organization mentioned on this web site is worthy of your support.

Step 4: Get Linked
From writing letters to taking part in protests, there are hundreds of things an individual can do to work actively for animal liberation. But, it's hard to go it alone. Even if you choose not to formally join an organization, it's best to keep in touch so that you know what others are doing. One way to keep in touch is to sign up for an email news list. The largest and most comprehensive is AR-News, which you can read on the web or receive by email. Go to the AR-News web page for more information. You also may wish to sign up for our occassional email newsletter, The Brave Birds Times Online. To subscribe, just send a blank email message to bravebirds-subscribe@topica.com
